I have been a collector of Chess sets for nearly 50 years, but in 2004 I joined the Chess Collectors International (CCI) organisation and volunteered to take on the job of editing and producing their in-house magazine, ‘The Chess Collector’. For the past 20 years, I have researched and written many articles for the magazine, covering topics such as the History of Chess, the origins of specific chess designs, book reviews, and auction reviews. Recently I have taken a more reduced role as I now share editorial responsibility with another collector and CCI member, Peter Whitehead. However, I was recently asked if I would become a regular correspondent for the Howard Staunton Society and its associated ‘Gambit’ online magazine, which I accepted, and I also joined the society. I aim to share some updated articles from the Chess Collector magazine, along with some new ones that are currently rattling around in my head.
